Choose the right banana pup

Leaf shape is a selection clue, not permission to cut blindly. A broad-leaved pup may survive as an ornamental division if it leaves with viable corm tissue and roots, but it is not the preferred replacement for a fruiting mat. Roots matter, but corm tissue matters more
The ideal pup leaves with both healthy roots and a wedge of firm corm. Roots reduce the time needed to establish, but roots attached only to decaying tissue do not rescue a damaged growing point. Size alone is not a universal readiness test because cultivar vigour and container restriction differ. Expose and assess the corm connection
