Containers are the one place spacing is absolute: one tomato per pot. Two seedlings in one container fight for the same root volume, merge above the rim, and dry out unevenly. - Canopy merge: You cannot tell where one plant ends and the next begins without lifting foliage.
- Persistent wet leaves: Lower leaves stay damp hours after irrigation, even on warm mornings.
